The iconic 126.2-metre Lürssen explorer superyacht Octopus has been sold. The superyacht was listed by Fraser and Burgess and she has just joined Camper & Nicholsons charter fleet. Her new owner intends to charter her for the first time since her launch, offering guests the opportunity to join her on a two-year round the world tour, beginning in January 2022, following a yard period this winter.

The superyacht Octopus was built in 2003 by German shipyard Lürssen. She features exterior design by Espen Øino and made waves in the industry when she was launched, often pinned as the first superyacht of her canon, a true ocean explorer with a 12,500 nautical miles range. She is, to this day, considered the world’s largest explorer superyacht.

Octopus carries second-to-none equipment onboard, including two helicopters, stored in their own dedicated hangar on deck, as well as a gigantic float-in tender bag at her stern, which accommodates an ROV with a 1.9 mile range and a 13-metre Hinckley tender called Man of War II. She also carries a Pagoo submarine for as many as eight guests and two crew, able to drive for up to eight hours. Octopus also features a dive centre with a hyperbaric chamber for scuba diving enthusiasts. Standout deck features include a large pool and endless dining, lounging and sunbathing locations.

With luxury spread across eight decks, her 26 guests have unparalleled privacy while onboard. The details of the superyacht interiors, which were penned by American designer Jonathan Quinn Barnett, have remained extremely private over the years, though a glimpse of them was captured in a video about the vessel released in 2019, shortly after she went on the market.

It has, however, been confirmed that the 9,932 GT superyacht features a spa, library, bar, cinema, gym, various lounges, a forward facing observation deck, a basketball court and a glass bottomed observation lounge in the tank deck. The new owner of Octopus will be able to enjoy a dedicated owners deck, with a bar, private elevator, Jacuzzi to the fore and an al fresco dining table to aft. There are thirteen guest staterooms in total, alongside 30 crew cabins to accommodate her 63 crew members.

Octopus has been exceptionally well maintained over the years, undergoing extensive yard periods every five years to retain her in turnkey condition. The most recent refit was conducted in 2019 by Blohm+Voss.

With diesel-electric propulsion and eight generators for support, Octopus can operate autonomously to a maximum speed of 19 knots thanks to her hybrid propulsion system. The superyacht Octopus had a last known asking price of €235,000,000.
